As Amazon expands and fine tunes their shipping logistics, the company is expected to handle shipping for up to 80% of its own packages this year. For the 94% of sellers using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) to manage at least part of their business, tapping into the benefits of these streamlined logistics requires keeping up with Amazon’s product and packaging guidelines.
As of March 2021, sellers that offer hygiene and topical products through FBA will be required to use a safe factory seal on their packaging. Amazon’s seller guidelines explain that this change is intended to ensure customer confidence that items are new and in pristine condition.
The requirements, laid out by Amazon, of a suitable safe factory seal are:
They are opaque either with the company logo/any logo that cannot be replicated by the customer.
The seal leaves a sign of tampering on the product when broken.
They should be of a different colour and should not blend in with the surface of the product.
The seal should be sturdy, and the only way to break it is with clear intent (no accidental breaking e.g. during transportation or usual packaging handling). The seal cannot be manipulated or copied.
In the new FBA seller guidelines for safe factory seals, Amazon recommends using labels made with Avery Dennison’s PEHD TE film and S700 adhesive, a combination that sticks securely to a wide variety of packaging, is strong enough to withstand shipping and handling, and is destroyed when a customer opens the item to leave no question about the package being opened.
Along with this PEHD TE solution, Avery Dennison has a wide variety of security labels that comply with Amazon FBA’s new requirements and offer brands a way to enhance their packaging design. From seals with a company logo, to ones using a film made from recycled materials, to custom designs that are revealed when peeled, the label ensures customer confidence and can also create a better unboxing experience.
Avery Dennison’s security range offers a variety of facestocks and permanent adhesives, resistant to heat, water, and chemicals, that can be combined and customized to seal even the most unique hygiene and topical product packaging. Listed below are a few of our most in-demand solutions that align with Amazon’s new FBA requirements.
Good: Paper Destructible Labels
Paper labels are a versatile option that is great for printing designs and details, such as a company logo or a bold graphic that adds to the packaging aesthetic. Using a permanent adhesive designed to securely bond with cardboard, plastic, glass and other packaging materials, the label cannot be removed without damaging the paper face material.
